Health Workers are Mothers to the Community

“The best Mother’s Day gift a health care worker can give to a community is that of providing the best care to it,” says Angel Nonhlanhla Dlamini, a 40-year-old nurse manager at Ndzingeni Nazarene Clinic in northern Eswatini. Angel, a mother of two children, says nurses should always be the best mothers to the community and Mother’s Day just gives an opportunity to them to further demonstrate it.

Angel has been in the clinic for the past eight years. She has never had an opportunity to spend quality time with her family to commemorate Mother’s Day because of her work commitment. Her children and stay in the Manzini region, about 120 kilometers from Ndzingeni.

But despite the distance, Dlamini loves her children and nurtures hope that they will remain healthy with a bright future. While she still gets messages from her children on the day, her focus remains in providing quality service to the community.

She is happy that she leads a facility of six nurses, and says nurses also needs to be appreciated for their work during Mother’s Day as they spend time working instead of being with their families.

“To my staff, I would want to say happy Mother’s Day, and may they continue to show that motherly love to the community and provide the best service as a gift to it,” she said.

Ndzingeni Nazarene Clinic is supported by the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) with support from USAID through the ASPIRE Project.
