Lifesaving Services Terminated for 10,000 Children and 10,000 Pregnant Women

An Update from EGPAF

Late yesterday, the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) received award termination notices for three of its primary USAID agreements, which had previously received approval to resume limited work under the PEPFAR waiver for lifesaving work from the Department of State. These agreements cover HIV programming in Lesotho, Eswatini, and Tanzania that serves pregnant women, children, and families with HIV.  We are instructed to immediately cease all activities and terminate all sub-awards and contracts associated with the awards.

These projects are supporting more than 350,000 people on HIV treatment, including nearly 10,000 children and more than 10,000 HIV-positive pregnant women. Terminating these programs will have a devastating impact on the communities EGPAF serves and our work to end AIDS in children, youth, and families.

Update March 14, 2025

Earlier this week, EGPAF received confirmation that our previously terminated program in Tanzania has been reinstated. We are working closely with officials at USAID and all relevant partners to restore services as quickly as possible. Our program in Tanzania serves thousands of children and pregnant women each year, and is vital to helping Tanzania achieve an AIDS-free future.

We want to thank our dedicated community who have taken action to support our lifesaving work. Because what Elizabeth Glaser said many years ago remains true. “People say they care but actions are what save lives.”
