Tuberculosis (TB) is the second leading infectious killer after COVID-19, despite it being preventable, treatable, and curable. Among children, the problem is even worse. TB is the sixth highest cause of death in children under five years, including many children living with HIV. In this webinar, the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) and partners explore the crisis around childhood and adolescent TB. In advance of World TB Day (March 24), the experts discuss ways to address the persistent policy and practice challenges to achieving national and global targets.
Multimonth ART: What Do Patient Care and Outcomes Look Like Within the First Year? Results from Studies in Cote d’Ivoire, Mozambique, and Eswatini | February 13, 2023
Recent years have seen a dramatic rise in the number of clients on antiretroviral therapy (ART) receiving multimonth dispensing (MMD). This was further accelerated during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly for children and others not meeting strict clinical stability criteria. Through a study with children and adults receiving MMD in Cote d’Ivoire — and analyses of routine data on pediatric clients on ART in Mozambique and Eswatini — we looked at patterns in ART dispensing, reasons for transitioning patients off the MMD model, and various patient outcomes within the first year of receiving MMD.
Saving Lives of Mothers: The Journey to Eliminating Cervical Cancer | January 30, 2023
During Cervical Cancer Awareness Month in January 2023, the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) joins the global conversation on raising awareness about cervical cancer and human papillomavirus vaccination. Cervical cancer is one of the leading cancers among women globally, with an estimated 604,000 new cases occurring in 2020. Low- and middle-income countries account for 90% of deaths resulting from cervical cancer. Women living with HIV, in particular, are six times more likely to develop cervical cancer when compared to women not living with HIV. An estimated 6% of women with cervical cancer live with HIV, and a little under 5% of all cervical cancer cases are attributed to HIV. Globally, a strategy has been developed both highlighted cervical cancer as a public health as well as accelerating elimination to spur action.

Comprehensive Advanced HIV Disease Programming | August 29, 2022
Up to half of the people living with HIV continue to present to care with advanced HIV disease (AHD), and individuals with AHD are at a high risk of death, even after starting antiretroviral therapy. Those with AHD are more prone to opportunistic infections. Tuberculosis, cryptococcal meningitis, and severe bacterial infections remain the leading causes of mortality, and 30% of children and adolescents still present with severe immunosuppression.
Approaching a Cure for Pediatric HIV | March 16, 2022
A cure for pediatric HIV could be a vital game-changer in the elimination of mother-to-child transmission; it could result in truly the end of this disease in children and in adolescents. EGPAF was joined by partners at The Pediatric Adolescent Virus Elimination (PAVE) Collaboratory to bring light to the field of pediatric cure research, the goals of PAVE, and to discuss the implementation implications of this science to all in the field of pediatric HIV.

Lesotho reached the UNAIDS 90-90-90 targets by 2020, with 90% of the population aware of their HIV status, 97% of those aware of their HIV status on treatment, and 92% of those on treatment virally suppressed. This webinar explored these results and the key components needed to achieve such progress in epidemic control.
