Global Health Foundation Launches Search for New President
The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) has launched a search for a new President as its current leader, Charles “Chip” Lyons, announced he will be leaving the organization in 2025. The position is open to internal and external candidates and the search is being conducted by Oxford HR. The role has broad responsibilities and will play a pivotal role in advancing EGPAF’s mission and shaping its long-term strategic vision to end the pediatric AIDS epidemic.
Lyons has led EGPAF since 2010. His commitment to prioritizing the health needs of children has been the cornerstone of the organization’s efforts to drive global action to ensure that those living with HIV/AIDS receive the care and treatment they need. Under Lyons’ stewardship, EGPAF has expanded access to antiretroviral therapies and helped build stronger healthcare systems in countries across Africa.
“Under Chip’s visionary leadership, EGPAF has become a global force in advancing health equity for children, youth and families, leading the charge in the fight for an AIDS-free generation,” said EGPAF’s Chairman of the Board, Jack Leslie. “As the organization enters its next chapter through the formation of HealthX Partners, we will build upon Chip’s extraordinary leadership to ensure that no child is ever devastated by HIV/AIDS.”
In early October 2024, EGPAF announced that it will be partnering with PSI to create HealthX Partners Incorporated, a new non-profit aimed at advancing the global health goals of both organizations in a resource-constrained environment through collective impact and expertise. Under the new partnership, HealthX Partners will act as a parent organization while EGPAF and PSI will act as subsidiaries, each with their own Presidents, and retaining their respective names, brands, missions, and expertise. The new President will support this exciting evolution and chart the next chapter for EGPAF when HealthX Partners launches in January 2025.
Before joining EGPAF, Lyons spent decades managing and developing programs for various global organizations, including the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. In addition, he served as a member of the Human Rights Watch Health and Human Rights Advisory Committee and worked from its inception to develop the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunizations (GAVI). In 2015, he was appointed by President Barack Obama as the U.S. Representative to the Executive Board of UNICEF after serving as the U.S. Alternate Representative.
Reflecting on his time at EGPAF, Lyons shared, “It has been an honor to serve as President and CEO and lead the organization’s life-saving work of creating a healthier, more equitable world for children everywhere. While I am stepping down, I leave knowing that the work we started will continue and that our progress towards eliminating pediatric HIV and building an AIDS-free generation is sustained.”
The job posting is live. The role is expected to be filled in early 2025.
