January 31, 2013, Washington, D.C. – The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) congratulates U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on the end of her tenure as the 67th Secretary of State of the United States. Since taking office in 2009, Secretary Clinton has emphasized the needs of people living with HIV – particularly women and girls – and she was instrumental in the development of the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) “Blueprint” for achieving an AIDS-free generation and the end of HIV/AIDS.
“On behalf of the Foundation, I’d like to thank Secretary Clinton for her years of invaluable service to the United States and to the world,” Foundation CEO Charles Lyons said. “During her remarks at the International AIDS Conference in July 2012, Secretary Clinton said that she looked forward to a day when we could gather ‘not talk about the fight against AIDS, but instead commemorate the birth of a generation that is free of AIDS.’ Because of her consistent and determined efforts, we are one step closer to reaching that goal. Moving forward, we look forward to working with newly confirmed Sec. John Kerry as we continue to fight for the end of HIV/AIDS.”
