Dr. Angeli Achrekar to Serve as Next UNAIDS Deputy Executive Director for the Programme Branch

WASHINGTON, D.C. — 05, October, 2022 The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation congratulates Dr. Angeli Achrekar as she continues her years of public service in the fight against HIV and AIDS as UNAIDS’ next Deputy Executive Director for the Programme Branch. 

“Through her years of leadership in high-level programmatic roles at government agencies and global health organizations, Dr. Achrekar is uniquely prepared to continue UNAIDS’ important efforts to end the HIV and AIDS pandemic,” said EGPAF President and CEO, Chip Lyons. 

As the acting Global AIDS Coordinator for PEPFAR during the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Achrekar supported the daily oversight, management, and implementation of the PEPFAR program ensuring that its activities and resources were effectively and efficiently leveraged across the over 50 countries in which PEPFAR has an active presence. 

 “EGPAF looks forward to collaborating with Dr. Achrekar in her new role at UNAIDS in which we will continue working together to prioritize children, youth, and families in the fight for an AIDS-free generation,” Lyons continued.
