Resuming Lifesaving Work

An Update from EGPAF

The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) has resumed work in many of our country programs for our lifesaving activities that align with the Department of State’s waiver, including HIV testing, care and treatment; pediatric and adolescent care; prevention of mother-to-child transmission; and treatment of advanced HIV disease. We are working closely with our U.S. government partners to ensure we comply with the waiver requirements and available budget during the review process.

We hope the February 13th court ruling will allow EGPAF to restart more of our activities as we await the completion of the foreign assistance review. We remain optimistic that our work to achieve an AIDS-free generation for women, children, youth, and families will continue as a US government priority.  U.S. government leadership in HIV prevention, treatment, and care has saved millions of lives.  Half of children born with HIV die before their second birthday without access to treatment. Pregnant women living with HIV also must be tested and treated early to prevent transmission to their babies and ensure they stay healthy.  Delays in prevention and treatment services are a matter of life and death.
