Our Expertise
Ending HIV and AIDS requires a comprehensive and community-based approach that meets the needs of children, youth, and families so every child can live a full and healthy life into adulthood.
Working on the ground in the world’s most affected regions, The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) delivers integrated HIV and AIDS prevention, diagnosis, and treatment services that meet the most urgent needs at each stage of this epidemic. Our work is rooted in health program optimization and delivery of innovative health products and models of care.
Prevention of Mother-to-Child HIV Transmission (PMTCT)
Mother-to-child transmission of HIV accounts for more than 90% of new childhood infections in the world today. Since our founding, EGPAF has provided over 31 million mothers with the services necessary to prevent transmission of HIV to their infants.
Pediatric HIV
Every week over 2,000 children in Africa die of HIV and AIDS. Meeting this urgent challenge requires addressing the health and well-being of children and their families through integrated prevention, diagnosis, and treatment services.
Adolescents, Youth, and HIV
Worldwide, nearly 10,000 youths are newly infected with HIV each week, and harmful stigmas and gender norms contribute to the alarming rates of infection among adolescents. As a result, EGPAF develops tailored community-based programs that increase access to information, quality services, and social support to empower at-risk youth.
Integrated Adult
Health Service Delivery
Ending this epidemic requires a comprehensive and community-based approach that addresses each stage of life. EGPAF strives to ensure that adults living with HIV have access to the integrated and psychosocial support they need to live long, healthy lives.
Advanced HIV Disease and Opportunistic Infection
While we’ve seen significant advancements in HIV testing and treatment in recent years, AIDS-related deaths have plateaued. This is because those facing the greatest risk of death are individuals living with advanced HIV disease. EGPAF is actively supporting differentiated models of care specifically designed to meet their unique needs.
Tuberculosis
Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the top 10 causes of death worldwide, and the leading cause of death among those living with HIV and AIDS. Over these last 20 years, EGPAF has worked to reduce TB illnesses by integrating prevention and treatment in HIV and AIDS health services.
Health Emergency Preparedness
More than 30 years ago, we were founded to confront the devastating impact of a pandemic affecting the health and safety of children, youth, and families. Since then, EGPAF has worked on outbreak preparedness and response for several pandemic threats, including HIV, Ebola, and COVID-19.
