This Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation-funded study measured the effect of a targeted training intervention for midwives on ARV coverage among HIV-positive pregnant women at delivery. A quasi-experimental design was used to compare intervention and control sites and cord blood was obtained and tested for HIV antibodies and the presence of nevirapine as a measure for PMTCT coverage.
