2025 was a year of significant disruptions in the global fight against HIV. In late January, the U.S. Executive Order Reevaluating and Realigning U.S. Foreign Aid set off a series of funding freezes, program cuts, and a realignment in the global health space. There were stop work orders, project terminations, and misinformation, all contributing to months of fear and confusion.

But the needs of children and families impacted by HIV did not stop. And that meant we had to keep fighting.

Across the globe, EGPAF leaders and our partners fought to protect the progress in the global HIV response. They used their expertise to care for patients, appeal to funders, and connect with stakeholders. They did not give up, and they still haven’t.

After a year of global aid freezes, cuts, and disruptions, we followed up with some of the people who are continuing the fight for an AIDS-free generation. Their stories highlight what was lost, what has changed, and why there is still a reason to fight.

“I really have a great hope that we’ll continue with this fight, and then we will be able to actually see a world with no new transmission of HIV to children.”
