We Must Remain Vigilant

Reaction to News from US CDC on Achieving Elimination of Perinatal HIV in the United States

WASHINGTON, D.C. – 19 April, 2023 – The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) acknowledges the remarkable news out of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention about the effective elimination of perinatal HIV infections in the United States. “For 35 years, EGPAF’s mission has been to end AIDS in children, both in the U.S. and abroad. Today’s news from the CDC demonstrates that an AIDS-free generation can be achieved, but only with continuous investment in the well-being of pregnant and breastfeeding women living with HIV,” said EGPAF CEO and President, Chip Lyons. “While this news is certainly exciting, the work to end perinatal HIV is not over. We commit to working with the CDC, HRSA, and all those who have tirelessly worked towards this milestone and remain vigilant against backsliding.” Lyons added.
