EGPAF Welcomes Three New Members to its Board of Directors

The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) is proud to announce the appointment of three new members to its board of directors.

Janice Bashford is an attorney at the law firm of Arnold & Porter, possessing more than 15 years of strategic policy analysis and legislative expertise. Having served as Legislative Director and Chief Council to Congresswoman Karen Bass, Ms. Bashford played an integral role in both negotiating and advancing legislation related to foreign affairs, child welfare, healthcare, as well as civil and human rights.

Dr. Shannon Hader is the dean of the School of International Service at American University. Prior to this position, Dr. Hader served as the former Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Deputy Executive Director of the Programmes at the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS). In this role, she led the development and launch of the UNAIDS 2016-2021 strategy, which included a strong commitment to ending AIDS in children. Previously, Dr. Hader acted as the Director of the Division of Global HIV and TB at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as well as the Senior Scientific Advisor to the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief at the U.S. Department of State.

Dr. Deborah Persaud is an expert clinician and researcher specializing in the study and treatment of pediatric HIV. She currently serves as a professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and directs the pediatric infectious diseases fellowship program at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. She joined the Johns Hopkins University faculty in 1997, after completing a visiting lectureship at the Moi University in Eldoret, Kenya. Listed as one of Time magazine’s one of the 100 most influential people in 2013 for her groundbreaking pediatric HIV treatment, Dr. Persaud is the scientific chair of the HIV CURE Scientific Committee of the International Maternal, Pediatric Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials (IMPAACT) Group and was awarded EGPAF’s Scientist Award for her HIV research.
