Integrating TB and HIV Treatment Improves Outcomes
In case you missed it, be sure to read last week's New York Times column examining the link between drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB) and HIV.
According to results from three major studies, combining HIV and tuberculosis (TB) treatment increases a patient’s chance of survival, rather than waiting to begin anti retroviral therapy after TB treatment.
People living with HIV are much more vulnerable to drug-resistant TB. As a result, the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) seeks to integrate TB and HIV treatment into many of our country programs. Now, patients visiting EGPAF-supported clinics in several countries can also receive TB treatment and counseling.
