The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation Launches New Project to Fight HIV/AIDS Worldwide

Filling remaining gaps and unmet need through tailored technical assistance

November 7, 2019—Washington, D.C.—The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) is pleased to announce the launch of a new technical assistance project funded by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) through the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), Delivering Technical Assistance 2 (DELTA2). As countries move towards achieving the ambitious global targets, focus on specialized technical assistance is essential to ensure momentum and progress toward ending the epidemic is sustained.

Under the DELTA2 project, EGPAF will continue to provide targeted, country-specific technical support for priority PEPFAR countries and countries supported by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. EGPAF has partnered with the University of New Mexico’s Health Sciences Center ECHO Institute to virtually link providers in the field with subject matter experts and HEALTHQUAL International to ensure lasting quality improvements. EGPAF and its partners will continue to collaborate with CDC and key in-country stakeholders to provide efficient, cost-effective and country-specific support to strengthen program implementation and address gaps as they arise.

This new project builds on the successes of the DELTA project, a $23 million dollar award launched in 2013, which delivered strategic, evidence-informed, comprehensive TA to 11 countries in sub-Saharan Africa. “At its core, EGPAF is committed to generating and applying evidence-based, innovative approaches to all of its work, and applies and adapts lessons learned to ensure all activities reach those in need,” said Dr. Stephen Lee, EGPAF Vice President of Program Implementation and Country Management. As HIV/AIDS funding and programs shift towards a focus on building local capacity and sustainability, DELTA2 highlights this evolution through an emphasis on tailored approaches that empower governments to effectively implement and sustain HIV/AIDS programs and progress.

EGPAF is one of the largest implementers of comprehensive and integrated HIV testing, treatment, and prevention services for children, youth, and families globally. With over 30 years of experience, EGPAF has established well-developed technical assistance approaches for a variety of areas, including optimizing service delivery across the entire HIV continuum of care, strategic information and evaluation, and organizational development and capacity building.

“EGPAF looks forward to leveraging its 30 years of practical, on-the-ground experience and leveraging our deep bench of clinical and technical experts across PEPFAR priority countries for this new project,” said Anja Giphart, EGPAF Executive Vice President for Medical and Scientific Affairs. “Our collaborative relationships with CDC, PEPFAR, and host governments at every level of the health system will accelerate this new project’s impact.” EGPAF currently provides country-based technical assistance at the facility, community, district, and national levels, and supports HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention projects in 14 countries.
