In Tanzania, Ariel Camps allow Kids Living with HIV to Enjoy Childhood

Safaris, soccer, parks, and playtime. For one week this past December, campers who attended Ariel Camps in the Arusha and Mwanza regions of Tanzania were able to abandon their worries and simply be kids. 

More than 138 HIV-positive children in the region attended Ariel Camps, hosted by the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF). The camps enable HIV-positive children to make new friends, share new experiences, learn about HIV, and share their knowledge with others. In addition to playtime and field trips, campers learn different ways to meet the challenges of living with HIV/AIDS. Counselors teach the children how to emphasize peer support among those living with HIV and initiate and encourage peer counseling sessions outside of camp.
