EGPAF’s Work to End the Tuberculosis Epidemic in Children
Overview
The Tuberculosis Epidemic
Worldwide, Tuberculosis (TB) continues to be one of the top 10 leading causes of death. In 2017, an estimated 10 million people were living with TB throughout the world.1 Drug-resistant TB – a strain unresponsive to effective treatment options – continues to affect a large proportion of these individuals and is considered a major public health crisis. About 1.7 billion people, 23% of the world’s population, are estimated to have a latent TB infection, and are at risk of developing active TB disease.
