Through funding from ViiV’s Positive Action for Children Fund, EGPAF provides technical assistance and capacity building to CBOs identified by ViiV.

Under the guidance of CDC and in collaboration with the Malawi Ministry of Health (MOH), in order to strengthen surveillance, EGPAF developed and initiated a nationally representative telephonic syndromic surveillance survey to identify emerging hotspots of influenza-like illnesses (ILIs) and severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) illnesses and strengthen linkage to care) for clients living with HIV. EGPAF was also tasked to expand and integrate the COVID-19 national Lab Information Systems in 50 sites to ensure real-time monitoring, transport, analysis and results-sharing of COVID-19 samples collected. EGPAF will also design, develop and pilot an ILI and SARI monitoring system by modernizing the existing MOH electronic reporting systems to improve real-time access and use of IDSR data to respond to COVID-19 outbreaks and any future disease outbreaks in select high-volume clinics in Blantyre and Zomba. EGPAf also supported the 179 clinics with supplies to ensure improved infection prevention and control

Under this project, EGPAF will complement the foundation of AHD services by implementing intensified community-based adherence support for advanced HIV patients; facilitating capacity building of service providers; promoting a hub and spoke network for lab sample and patient referrals; conducting operational research and evaluation to inform best practices for routine implementation; and analyzing cost effectiveness of the intervention program in southern Malawi in five districts.

This ViiV Healthcare Positive Action for Adolescents-funded project aims to improve the long-term health outcomes of adolescents (ages 10-19) and young adults (ages 20-24) living with HIV in Homabay and Turkana counties. The project promotes meaningful involvement of adolescents and young people in HIV prevention, care and treatment programs, while increasing capacity of health care workers in the provision of these services. The project also support schools to be HIV responsive - strengthening bidirectional referrals between health facilities and educational environments.

Unitaid is funding the CaP TB project, which aims to improve TB screening in children, and accelerate access to TB diagnosis and new child-friendly treatments for both active and latent TB - a disease which affects one million children. This project, launched in 2017, will bring new child-friendly TB drug formulations and improved diagnostic technology to 10 countries.

To build local capacity and sustain gains of national and international HIV/AIDS programs, EGPAF launched the DELTA project in 2013 with PEPFAR/CDC funding. The purpose of DELTA is to provide targeted and cost-effective technical assistance and program implementation expertise in PMTCT and pediatric and adult HIV care and treatment service programs in high-HIV prevalence settings.

EQUIP-Malawi was a PEPFAR-funded project with a goal of strengthening the capacity of health care systems in central Malawi to deliver HIV/AIDS care by improving the continuum of HIV care, the quality and efficiency of care, and workforce training and development, and to evaluate the delivery of this care system to serve as a model for scale-up across Malawi.

With funding from ViiV Healthcare, this project is focused on improving and expediting access to testing, care, and antiretroviral treatment (ART) for infants and young children in Malawi. T

Through funding from ViiV’s Positive Action for Children Fund, EGPAF provides technical assistance and capacity building to CBOs identified by ViiV.

The purpose of this study is to assess and improve service quality issues related to client access, acceptability, initiation of ART, retention, and adherence as well as their satisfaction with PMTCT programs and to evaluate the cost and effectiveness of the program.

EGPAF is one of the major U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) HIV service delivery implementing partners in Malawi.

EGPAF, in partnership with Johnson and Johnson (J&J), worked in Malawi, Cameroon, and India to improve coverage and quality of prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV (PMTCT) services.

This PEPFAR-funded HIVCORE study is a retrospective cohort analysis of mother-infant pair retention in prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV (PMTCT) services from antenatal clinic through 18 months postpartum in four selected EGPAF-supported country programs that are implementing Option A, Option B, or Option B+ for PMTCT.

Adapting a generic protocol developed by CDC to the Malawi context, EGPAF oversees survey implementation and data collection and analysis to deliver a cumulative HIV drug resistance (DR) dataset that will describe detected HIV DR patterns and viral suppression in the target population and capacity building for conducting HIV DR surveys.

EGPAF, in close collaboration with Malawi’s Ministry of Health, is implementing this five-year project under U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) with funding from the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).
