High-Level Meeting on Ending Mother-to-Child Transmission and the Triple Elimination of HIV, Syphilis, and Hepatitis B in Africa

Date: Thursday, December 4, 2025

Time: 10:50AM – 12:40PM

EGPAF Speaker: Doris Macharia, President

Location: H.E. John Dramani Mahama Room (Main Auditorium), Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), Accra, Ghana

About:

Mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of HIV, Syphilis, and Hepatitis B remains a significant public health challenge in Africa, threatening the health and survival of both mothers and children. Limited access to quality healthcare, socio-cultural barriers, and insufficient political commitment continue to hinder progress toward the elimination of vertical transmission and improving maternal and child health outcomes. Recognizing the crucial role of African leadership, particularly the influential voices of African First Ladies, the Society for AIDS in Africa (SAA), in collaboration with the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), is convening a High-Level Meeting (HLM) on the margins of ICASA 2025 to accelerate efforts towards the elimination of mother-to-child transmission and the realization of the Triple Elimination Agenda. This meeting aims to build on the momentum from previous ICASA HLMs, strengthen political commitment, and enhance partnerships to achieve an AIDS-free generation by 2030.

Moving the Global Alliance Forward – Vision, Accountability, and Action beyond 2025

Date: Thursday, December 4, 2025

Time: 3:10 PM – 3:55 PM

EGPAF Speaker: Doris Macharia, President

Location: Dr. Pierre Mpele Room Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), Accra, Ghana

About:

Doris will be making comments from the floor.

Launched in 2022, the Global Alliance to End AIDS in Children was founded on a bold promise: to renew political commitment, strengthen leadership, mobilize resources, and close the persistent treatment gap so that we can end AIDS for every child by 2030. Over the past three years, remarkable milestones have been achieved, including the Dar es Salaam Declaration for Action, national action plans in the 12 Global Alliance countries, and growing inclusion of communities in governance and accountability mechanisms. Yet as we enter a new phase, the global context is shifting. A shrinking funding landscape, evolving epidemics, and competing health priorities are reshaping the environment, calling for renewed focus, innovation, and partnership. The question before us is clear: what should the next chapter of the Global Alliance look like, and how do we ensure it fulfils its promise?

Real-World Evidence of AI in the HIV Cascade

Date: Saturday, December 6, 2025

Time: 11:55 AM – 12:40 PM

EGPAF Speaker: Doris Macharia, President

Location: Prof. Souleymane Mboup Room, Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), Accra, Ghana

About:

Rather than debating abstract “opportunities and barriers,” this satellite showcases real-world evidence from HIV programmes that have already embedded AI across prevention and treatment. Implementers will present routine programme data on AI use in prevention and treatment pathways, highlighting where AI coaches (companions) are supporting HIV self-care, improving engagement and retention, and creating pragmatic opportunities to scale. Case studies include early results from PSI’s SPARC/Men’s PULSE work in South Africa and prevention cohorts led by CeSHHAR Zimbabwe (e.g., YWSS/DREAMS). The session also features a focused leadership talk on guardrails for national scale-up so countries can move from pilots to practice with confidence.
