Foundation Takes (Two!) Top Honors in 15th Annual Webby Awards

Posted by Evan Von Leer
Washington, D.C.
May 4, 2011

After two solid weeks of suspense, we’re sure you’re all waiting on the edge of your seats, wondering if our Webby Award-nominated video won.

Well, it did! We learned yesterday that the Foundation’s advocacy video, The Time to Eliminate Pediatric AIDS Is Now, has won two awards – a Webby Award, and a Webby People’s Voice Award – both in the Public Service and Activism, Online Film and Video category.

As we mentioned on the blog a few weeks ago, the Webby Awards are a big deal – sort of like the Oscars for the Internet. Needless to say, we’re pretty excited about the win, especially because the other videos in our category were so amazing. Special thanks go out to Long Story Short…Jessica Stuart Media, Inc., for helping us tell our story.

For the People’s Voice award, we really pulled out all the stops to get the word out – Facebook messages, tweets, emails. We even posted a message the old-fashioned way, in the windows of our Washington, D.C. office, to catch the eyes of those passing by on the street below. (That one landed us in The Webby Awards’ official blog)

While we are honored to win The Webby Award decided by a panel of judges, we are even more excited to win The People’s Voice Award chosen by you.

The scene at our Washington, D.C. office turned heads, earned us votes, and landed us in the official
Webby Awards blog on April 27. (Photo: EGPAF/Laura Fenwick)
Simply put, our Webby People’s Voice win would not have been possible without your involvement and support. Your votes gave us the momentum that we needed.

The Foundation was one of only a handful of winners selected from a nomination pool of more than 10,000 entries – The Webby Award’s largest nomination pool in the 15-year history of the awards program.

Thank you for voting—and for sharing the video with your friends and families over Facebook, Twitter, email, and more.

But most importantly, thank you for all that you do to help the Foundation, and our efforts to support millions of children, women, and families affected by HIV and AIDS around the world.

We hope this video encourages more people to join us in our mission to finish the job that Elizabeth Glaser started, and eliminate pediatric AIDS around the world.

You can tune in to the Webby Awards ceremony live on Monday, June 13. For details on how to watch, visit the Webby Awards Facebook page here: http://on.fb.me/WatchtheWebbys.

And once again, thanks for helping make it happen!
