Daily News (Tanzania): The fall and rise of children’s hope
June 13, 2010
Daily News follows the results of one mother and child receiving PMTCT services in rural Korandoto, and the progress made battling pediatric HIV/AIDS throughout the country through a partnership between the Foundation, the government, and civil society.
“In the last few minutes before her mother died, Paulina Sekela’s life seemed to play along a subtle dangerous thread, albeit briefly. Her newly acquired life was on a line. Her HIV positive mother had got Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMCT) services at Korandoto hospital throughout the pregnancy but the complications she got on delivery, left her never to have known the truth. Was the baby HIV positive as well? That was to remain a mystery for as far as the rural systems would allow. Though the mother was gone, the baby’s HIV status was to be known when she turned three years old.”
