Unite Half-Marathon at Rutgers University

Longtime Foundation supporter Beth Jarvie is rallying donations for “Our Moment,” a team of running enthusiasts that will be participating in the Unite Half-Marathon at Rutgers University on April 17 and raising funds to help the Foundation eliminate pediatric AIDS!
"Twenty years ago, Elizabeth Glaser realized there was a moment to act — to change attitudes, demand action, and give a voice to children and families affected by HIV and AIDS," Beth says. "Just as Elizabeth realized her moment to act, we hope this event will be our moment to raise awareness for the work of the Foundation, and our moment to realize the strength and power within ourselves. With a team of runners of all levels, from first-time racers to those who are veterans of numerous marathons, Team Our Moment is united in its goal of supporting the Foundation's mission to eliminate pediatric AIDS."

There's no shortage of inspirational stories on the "Our Moment" team. This year, Beth welcomes back Ramona Belfiore, a senior at Drew University
(read a recent blog post about Ramona here) and a Foundation Ambassador who also ran the 2010 Unite Half-Marathon. Adds Beth, "Ramona is HIV-positive and a direct recipient of the critical work of the Foundation. Her optimistic attitude and courage to stand up and say 'I have HIV, but HIV doesn’t have me!' is what inspires me to stay passionate about my commitment to the Foundation." In addition, Ramona's boyfriend Matt, who has cerebral palsy, has joined the "Our Moment" team this year and will be running his first half-marathon. When Beth asked Matt why he would take on such a physically demanding challenge, his answer was simply that he loves Ramona and wants to be by her side to encourage and support her in all her endeavors.
Runners of all experience levels are welcome. Additionally, there is no fundraising goal to meet; participants merely pay their own race registration fee, then donate an extra $20 to the Foundation via a separate donation form
